Why Do I Care

I could have went my entire life without giving a second thought about Avatar. I was like, yeah, it is amazing what they can do with computers nowadays, did you know that Charles Babbage created the first computer in 1837? Neat-o!

Then I read the Paste Magazine review and I was more inclined to care because I respect that magazine.

Of course I had to do research because Robert was like "That movies going to be no good, son." (I hate it when he calls me son) I came to the conclusion that I'm probably going to try and go back to not caring because I was a happier person back then. It's impossible but I'm going to try.

When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar

I don't know, I do care but I don't care. I could reduce artistry to mere haranguing of the masses. I could say something about how short life is and how each moment should be a practice in making the most of that moment. I could could write an essay about reclaiming popular culture as a stewardly practice. However, I feel like that would just be some kind of pretentious. Too late, I'm some kinda pretentious.

I'll watch it if it has some Airbending.

  1. It was about white guilt. But I didn't care really. It was a movie. Give me a real-life situation where a white person is being ridiculous and then i'll care.

  2. Honestly, Dances with Wolves was a decent movie, but we only need one Dances with Wolves.

Really I think I'm really disillusioned with Paste because I thought that I might like Avatar for a second. Stunning visuals are great and all, but in the scheme of things I think Avatar is forgettable. Star Wars was remembered for its visuals, but it built something more than just amazing space battles. From what I understand there is no myth being built and no characters that matter in Avatar.

It's almost three hours long probably for the only reason that Avatar loves itself for its CGI wonderfulness. I could have read a book or blogged something (anything) in that amount of time. There was a time (before Paste) that I could have not watched Avatar and never had another thought about it or even an opinion about it.

    I was happier then.

  3. Really?
    "I was happier then?"
There are worse things to get offended about.

  4. I take earthly stewardship seriously (as a Christianly practice) and am pretty invested in it. I consider the cultivation of pop culture similiar to taking care of the world's resources or the government.

    Just saying...

I'm really excited to see you in a few days!

  5. We had the Last Samurai which was basically Dances with Wolves in Japan. Where were your "cultivation skills" then?
Or did you even know that phrase existed then?
    Hmm..
You've already trangressed anyways. High School Musical was on your Ipod for a few months. Such a mindless choice!
It's time to start reading this instead. I know I have and it swlowly cleaning the B.S. out of me.

  7. Here is the thing... I acknowledged that High School Music is not quality. It wasn't mindless I know and it is still on my Ipod. I'm going to fill you in on my pundit square theory of pop culture when I get home. It makes sense of the opinion v. quality.

Its not cultivation its discernment, its knowing.

I might not have known the problems with the Last Samurai. They were still there. I might not know what the probelms are with Obama's Health Care plan (I kinda know the problems) but they still are there. I just haven't applied the same time investment with politics as I have with pop culture.

Do you want to go to blows about which one is worth getting upset about?

I can assure you that they are equally important and not important at all.

    Also your link didn't work.

  10. You have to prove nothing to me.
    You'll always be my friend
The only thing you have to do is ask yourself "Am I being honest when I write?" Or am I just trying to put forth a fake personality to justify myself?
You admitted you're pretentious in the article so....
Think about it. It's maybe the theme of your entire life.
If you're honest about what you write or anything you do, then i could care less. If not someone needs to call you out and expose you.
