Why Do I Care

I could have went my entire life without giving a second thought about Avatar. I was like, yeah, it is amazing what they can do with computers nowadays, did you know that Charles Babbage created the first computer in 1837? Neat-o!

Then I read the Paste Magazine review and I was more inclined to care because I respect that magazine.

Of course I had to do research because Robert was like "That movies going to be no good, son." (I hate it when he calls me son) I came to the conclusion that I'm probably going to try and go back to not caring because I was a happier person back then. It's impossible but I'm going to try.

When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar

I don't know, I do care but I don't care. I could reduce artistry to mere haranguing of the masses. I could say something about how short life is and how each moment should be a practice in making the most of that moment. I could could write an essay about reclaiming popular culture as a stewardly practice. However, I feel like that would just be some kind of pretentious. Too late, I'm some kinda pretentious.

I'll watch it if it has some Airbending.

This Remix

I don't know if this person was the first to remix a song like this, maybe the Books? But I do know this video is a few years old in internet time and it sounds really really good. I think this song opens up so many possibilities for the interaction between film and music that hasn't been seen yet. Good art does that! Makes people say, I never knew I could do that!

This video is the best!

I'm getting a Haircut and My Weekend is going to be Awesome

What kind of haircut should I get?

I'm thinking that I should get an alt bro haircut, because that is how I roll now. You know, knocking back PBRs while complaining about my graphic design gig and/or yelling off of cliffs and shhhhhh (Btdubs: thank you, Mark). I'd throw around pictures of alt bros and their alt haircuts but I'm just not that Germany ambitious and misunderstood right now.

But I'd still love to hear your input.

This weekend is my last weekend of my time in New York and it might be THE BEST.

Thursday is Yeasayer/Amazing Baby

Friday is School of Seven Bells

Sunday is Dinosaur Jr. (Holy Shhh!)

I'm going to have a better weekend than you, let's just face it.

See ya'll

Much to Mew

Well, I'm an integrated cog in the Columbia Records blue team machine. I have partitioned a computer off for myself and have made it my own, which means it has a background which I much prefer. In fact, I'm writing this from that computer now. My fellow intern, whats-you're-name-again (her name is Nicole), is sitting at the other computer. It is nice to have a place to chill when they are not making me do stuff (which is often).

Don't worry, I make myself do stuff instead.

I help mail things. I sit in on Jason's doings. I run things to different parts of the building and different people that (usually) say "thank you" just like everybody else. I answer phones, sometimes. That is actually tough for me. I don't like people enough to talk to them over the phone. I only almost gaffed once, but the guy I was talking to caught me and corrected me.

He asked what college I go to very condescendingly. He might be the first prick I've kinda but not really met here.

I've been doing a lot of work on Mew's newest album - out 8/25 - I've sent out a lot of press releases and posters promoting the album. I'm really pumped because the
Glass Handed Kites, was a super intense album and really rocked hard.

Btdubs, How freaking awesome is that pun in the title?

Brooklyn We Go Hard

I am in the Big Apple, some call it New York City, I call it the Big Apple. Because my ego is about the size of this city I decided that I should start a blog. Ya'll know I love to tell everybody what I am doing with my life. Follow closely, take notes. You might learn something here.

I'm living in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. There is a broken down bus out on the street. There is always someone working on it, but I doubt it'll ever be fixed. Above the door are these bronze statues of dudes chilling on a bronze beam while they eat their bronze lunches and smoke bronze cigarettes. They are neat, but I have yet to give them names. I live with maybe three or four other people. I'm not quite sure. I am sure that most of us try to avoid the guy who rents this place out. The oven doesn't work, but there is a train that rips on by every hour or so.

I wasn't made aware that there were train tracks nearby by the craigslist ad, but somehow I always knew.

Speaking of trains, I decided that I love the subway. Olive Hayes says the subways are blues blue, but I say they're sky blue. I get to sit back and listen to music. Everybody is trying to avoid eye contact with each other, its great. I've had my best/worst awkward eye contact moments on the subway. When I share in the tense awkwardness I share in the human existence! Some people fall asleep on the subway.

Advice for you: it is not a good idea to carry a lamp through the subway during peak hours.

Columbia Records is quite possibly the best job ever. This one time I asked Jason, “Wait, The Whitest Boys You'll Ever Know are Erlund Oye's side project, right?” He said that he thinks that I am cool. One person said that we had matching outfits. It was true, not intentional. This was the second time we've even met each other. I think we both were slightly embarrassed. Unfortunately I don't think I own any shirts that aren't retro-plaid.

So tomorrow I'm gonna do what I do every night now that I am a Brooklynite hipster: knock back PBRs while and get nostalgic with a drunk graphic design major/blogger about the time when the Arcade Fire was good.

I'll make sure to blog about it.
